Grasmere village

Surely one of the most attractive of Lakeland's villages, set in the heart of the Lake District and surrounded by magnificent lake and mountain scenery, making it an ideal base from which to enjoy Cumbria and the National Park at any time of the year.
The natural beauty of the area has always provided inspiration for artists, writers, poets, and craftsmen. The most famous of these was the poet William Wordsworth who lived and worked in the village and described the vale as ''the loveliest spot that man hath ever found''. A visit to Dove Cottage, the poet's first Grasmere home, will reveal rooms that have changed little since he lived there in 1800. St. Oswald's Church, which dates back to the 13th century, contains Wordsworth's memorial and gravestone.

G
rasmere and the surrounding area offers unrivalled walking opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Many of these walks start from our front door. Enjoy the beautiful walk around Grasmere and Rydal lakes, study the vale from the aptly named Loughrigg Terrace or simply stroll along the Rothay riverside walk as it meanders through the village. Walk up the local fells of Loughrigg, Silver Howe, or Helm Crag and savour the stunning panoramic views.
